Seniors, this is your time to shine. Every Monday, during the month of October, the guidance department would like you to wear a college T-shirt.Show us where youre headed, what schools you love or even where you hope to go.October is College Application Month for the state of Louisiana and we want your future to be on display.We are so proud of you and you should be too. If you don’t have a college T-shirt now, go out and get one soon.

 

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation exists to bring better to the world through investment in exceptional high school students who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others.Do you think you would qualify for a scholarship from the foundation?Check at the details through the link at gorebs.org. Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James W. McLamore, the BURGER KING Scholars program has awarded $35 million in scholarships to more than 33,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2018 alone, the Foundation awarded $3.7 million to more than 3,400 students in North America.

 

Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service. The application period for the 2019-2020 college school year begins o nOct. 15, 2018 and closes Dec. 15, 2018.

 

JCL is sponsoring a canned food drive next week (9/24-9/28) to benefit the NELA Food Bank as a part of a state-wide drive on behalf of our parent organization, the Louisiana Junior Classical League. Please bring non-perishable items like canned fruit, canned vegetables, or canned meat or items like bagged rice, bagged beans, or boxed meals.The current biggest needs are proteins (peanut butter in plastic containers, beans, tuna, canned chili, etc.) and meals in boxes/cans (Mac and cheese, spaghetti-os, ravioli, etc.). Please do not bring any glass containers. We will collect in homeroom, and the winning homeroom will get doughnuts one day the following week.

 

The West Monroe High School Swim Team competed this past weekend at the North Louisiana High School Swim Meet in Shreveport. Senior Jase Neal placed 5th in the 200 freestyle, 9th in the 100 butterfly, and 4th in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Nolan Kennedy placed 18th in the 50 freestyle and 20th in the 100 freestyle. The Boys' Team placed 10th out of 13 teams and the combined team placed 12th out of 18 teams competing last weekend! Congrats guys! Also,Come out and support the West Monroe High School Swim Team again this Saturday beginning at 10 AMat Louisiana Tech in Ruston as they take on the Sulphur Golden Tors! Make sure you come out and show your rebel support for all of our swimmers!!
