Attention art club members,

Pick up your senior baby ad forms outside room 6204. Deadline isNov. 1st.

 

If you have HOCO proposal pictures you'd like in the yearbook, send them tokiper@opsb.netwith the students' names and a good caption. We also need summer pictures, senior week, and link crew/freshman orientation.

 

Students if you a Senior or Junior and are interested in a healthcare career, A-HEC has some opportunities for you. There will be four one day field trips to local colleges that will allow you to get a closer look at medical degrees that they offer. Colleges that are included are LSU Health Shreveport, LA Tech, Northwestern, and ULM. If you are interested, grab a application form outside of room 3101, complete the form, and mail it to the address listed beforeNovember 3rd.

 

Are you in need of community service hours?

If you are, the annual Downtown West Monroe Pumpkin Fest is looking for volunteers for Saturday, October 21st. To sign up to volunteer for Pumpkin Fest stop by Miss Counts room in Freshman Wing 1208 or Mrs. Counts Room in 4th Wing 4104

 

Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award! The ACT Student Champion Award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place.

 

ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, plaque, and state-level recognition.Applications can be found atwww.act.org/readinesschampions. More information can be found in the guidance office.

 

Applications are due December 31, 2017, and champions will be notified on or before April 2, 2018.

 

The Louisiana AFL-CIO will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships at their 63rd Annual Convention in March 2018. To be eligible to enter this essay contest, allcontestants must be high school seniors residing in the State of Louisiana whose parent/step parent is a member of an affiliated local union in good standing with the Louisiana AFL-CIO. If you are a senior and you are interested in more information, stop by the guidance office and pick up a packet. All application materials must be postmarked byJanuary 5, 2018.

 

Coach Osborne will start a Driver's Ed class onThursday November 2ndafter school. You can start signing up today, the cost is 295.00 and you must have your money when signing up. (cash or money orders only)

You must also have a copy of your birth certificate when signing up.

You can only sign up with Coach Osborne in the PE gym.

 

The Art Club meeting will be Tuesday after school in Mrs. Ganley's room 1109. There will be a business meeting for the first 10 minutes and then a fun Fall/Halloween painting activity until4:15. You are not required to stay for the painting activity. Bring your own paint brushes. Please come and sign up for the painting activity as soon as possible. See Mrs. Ganley for details.

 

Johnny's Pizza Pig Out will be held onTuesday, October 17th from 5-8 p.m. at both Warren Drive and Wallace Road locations. Please come out and support the library and technology for our school.

 

Seniors: The Graduate Shop will be on campus,Wednesday, October 18th, both lunch shifts to take your graduation supply order. Their table will be in the hallway outside Student Services. Don't forget to bring your order form and $100 deposit so you will get your free stuff!

 

Seniors, it's time to begin applying for merit scholarships for your 2018 freshman year of college.Priority Scholarship deadlines are quickly approaching, so remember to visit the web site of your chosen university for application requirements and deadlines.

 

The Priority Scholarship Deadline for McNeese State University is November 15. If you are interested in attending McNeese State and have not applied, go to www.mcneese.edu and fill out your application.

 

If LSU is your school of choice, theLouisiana State University - Baton Rouge Priority Scholarship Deadline and Honors College is November 15 also. Be sure to go to online atwww.lsu.edu to apply.

 

Congratulations to Mae Wilson for being selected as the 2018 DAR Good Citizen for West Monroe High School. The senior class voted on Mae for her selection of this honor as a result of her consistent, daily demonstration of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

Any student who is registered to go on the trip to Spain the summer of 2018 with Mrs. Cossey (Ms. Rome) needs to attend a very important meeting Wednesday after school. It will be brief but attendance is important.

 

Congratulations to the girls cross country team for their first place finish at the Ruston Cross country meet last Saturday. Kirsten Elrod placed 1st overall. Other top finishers were Laura Katherine Dupuy, Hannah Hudnell, Anna Grace Mcduffie, Katie Redmond, Sara Riley Broadway and Heather Lary. The boys finished third overall and were led by Ethan Newberry's 5th place finish. Other top finishers were Christian Girod and Daniel Rowland.
