It's time to pick a few new members to add to our Interact Club here at West Monroe. If you don't know, Interact Club is a community service club that does various projects throughout the year to help improve the lives of those who might be in need. This year we are combining Interact recruitment with a food drive. We will be collecting items like soup, cereal, raviolis and spaghetti supplies to donate to Bawcomville Hope. This organization makes hot meals and provides food to those in need here in our community. If you would like your name added to the Interact Ballot, please find a poster around school that will tell you exactly what you should bring based on your grade. We will then have an election to choose new members from that ballot.

All items should be delivered to Mrs. Knox in room 3109 by next Friday, August 23rd. Don't forget to write down your name and 1st period teachers name when you deliver your food items. This is a firm deadline, and no late names will be added after that deadline.

All prospective AND returning Student Council members must complete the form linked in the QR code by Friday, September 13th. Flyers are posted around campus. Any students interested in running for office, stop by Mrs. Nix's room 3105 for more information. Acceptance Letters will go out the last week of September.

Freshmen, WMHS will be hosting a mixer for the Freshman Class on August 30th from 7-10 in the Edgewood Building. This is a great opportunity to come meet new people, dance, and have a great time. Attire will be your favorite West Monroe gear and jeans. Tickets will be $ 10 and will go on sale soon. So, Class of 2028, plan to attend this Freshmen event on August 30 from 7-10 in the Edgewood Building

Students interested in joining the Junior Civitan club, we will have our first meeting on August 27th at 3:15 in room 6206. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can stop by Mrs. Beach's room any day after the 27th to pick up a membership packet. All new and returning members must complete a membership packet. Forms and fees are due September 6th.

Seniors, Senior Sunrise is coming up! This is scheduled for next Friday in the stadium and the time has been pushed back to 6 AM. See Mrs. Krista Nelson if you want more information.

Also seniors, we’ve been asked to announce that your designated parking is in the front of the school in the Red parking spots. Try and stick to this area and not behind the gym or stadium.

Speaking of parking, I don’t know if you all have noticed the painted parking spots around campus, but you still have the opportunity to reserve your favorite parking spot!
The cost is still $100 to reserve, and you can swing by the library for more information!

One tradition here at WMHS is the annual Homecoming Assembly. In just a few weeks, we will be holding auditions for students who want to perform in the assembly. If you can sing, dance, or play a mean guitar, we want you to sign up. There are QR codes posted in each hallway and in the music building. Sign up soon and be ready to show your talents. Auditions are August 26.

The annual Bayou Jamb football game is coming up August 31 in Malone Stadium on the ULM campus. Tickets are now on sale in the main office. Make plans to come cheer on the Rebels as they take on the Evangel Eagles.

Open House is coming up this coming Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30. Please make sure you let your parents know. Of course, parents can meet your teachers and hear about your classes, but they can also visit with staff members from Guidance, Student Services, and the Rebel Branch of Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union. Again, that’s this coming Tuesday from 5:30 - 7:30.

As football season approaches, it’s time to start warming up our Rebel Spirit. We have many spirit days coming up, and we will let you know each week what to wear, but in case you want to start looking for your spirit gear, here’s a list of the themes: Olympics, Red Out, Jersey, Super Hero, Western, White Out, Pink Out, Safari, Rock and Roll, and Neon. Be ready to show your spirit.

Getting involved at WMHS is really easy as there are so many different things offered for you to plug into. But, it can be overwhelming figuring out what all is available. On Sept 4 (corrected date), the Freshmen Success teachers will be hosting a Club Fair during lunch shifts. You can browse the tables and visit with current members of clubs and organizations. Make plans to check this out.

FCS will have their annual prayer walk tonight, 8/16/24, at 6:00pm. We ask all those that attend to meet us at the double doors closest to Student Services. We will walk the halls and pray for our school.

Any girls who are an in-coming freshman or new student to WMHS this year and would like to play on the girls’ soccer team need to see Coach Barron in Room 2201 before the end of the day today..
This is only for freshmen or brand new students to WMHS!

Boys and girls who are interested in Tennis,
Tryouts are gonna be Monday August 19 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm to work around the heat. You must be enrolled in WMHS and come by the old gym between 7:20 am - 11:20 am to sign-up and receive paperwork. This paperwork must be completed in order to try out including an updated physical.

Also— a parent meeting will be in conjunction with Open House on Tuesday August 20th. It should start at 7:15pm or when 7th period is scheduled for that night.
