Cell Phones

Students must place cell phones in the holder by the door upon entrance to the classroom.  Each student has a pocket that is assigned to them based on their desk number.  This ensures compliance with the WMHS cell phone policy of no cell phone use on campus.  Students will pick up cell phones on the way out of class.  There are times that phones will be used to review materials.  Any other time, cell phones must be off and placed in the holder during class.

Makeup Work

Per the WMHS Student Handbook, students in school when a test or activity is announced and who are absent the day of the test or activity only will be expected to take the test or complete the activity immediately upon their return. This is designed to discourage students who are habitually absent on test days.

Per the WMHS Student Handbook, students missing more than one consecutive day will be allowed a minimum of one day for each day missed before being required to make up a test, turn in material, or complete an activity. This will in no case exceed five days. If after notification, the student fails to accomplish make-up in the allotted time, the proper grade is zero (0).

Makeup tests are given before school.  Please make arrangements to be at school at 7:00 am to make up work.  Enter the school through the main office and notify the secretary you are here to take a makeup exam.

Late submission for essays via the Turnitin.com site will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Discussion Boards

Students are given the opportunity to debate and exchange ideas via a discussion board through Turinitin.com.   The specifics of the time frames are set to encourage discussion.  Please note that students are given the time frames and parameters in class.  The grade for each discussion board is based on the context of responses, length of replies, and following the posting dates.  If a student posts all of his/her remarks on one day, there is no discussion and the grade will be considerably less due to the student’s inability to follow instructions.  During the first few times, students are working on discussion boards, reminders will be sent to students to complete work.  After that, no reminders will be sent.  This is to encourage students to use tools available to them to set schedules independently and complete work as in a collegiate setting.

Students have one week to complete a discussion board when assigned.  This is a typical discussion board schedule.

  • Monday / Tuesday – Post initial response to the posed question
  • Wednesday – Post response to a peer
  • Thursday/Friday – Post additional response to a peer
