West Monroe High School History Club Constitution

Revised 2023-2024

 

  1. NAME:
    1. The name of the organization shall be the West Monroe High School History Club.
  2. PURPOSE:
    1. The purpose(s) of this organization shall be to encourage and facilitate the further development, awareness, and appreciation of history through community service and learning opportunities. 
  3. MEMBERSHIP:
    1. Membership is restricted to students currently enrolled at West Monroe High School, in the 11th or 12th grade, who have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher at the time of signing up for the club, and complete ALL questions on the application as directed. 
    2. An incomplete or incorrectly completed application will be rejected.  Students should pay careful attention to the required length of response to some questions on the application.  See the statement regarding plagiarism listed in section VIII.      
    3. A student’s membership is contingent on following club, school, and district rules; and earning the required number of service hours.
    4. Accepted members must join the Google Classroom page for the club to maintain membership.  Any member who does not join by the end of September will be removed. 
    5. All accepted members must pay the dues to be considered a member. 
  4. MEETINGS:
    1. Announcements will be posted to Google Classroom and will be the only means of communication of service hour opportunities. 
    2. Meetings will only be held as needed. Attendance at these is mandatory.  If you cannot attend, you must let the sponsor know the reason. 
  5. SOURCE OF POWER:
    1. In accepting this constitution, the West Monroe High School History Club agrees to abide by Ouachita Parish School Board and West Monroe High School policies and regulations, which apply to students and student clubs.
    2. All school and district rules will be followed at all meetings and off campus functions such as volunteering for service hours. 
  6. AMENDMENTS AND RATIFICATION:
    1. The constitution shall be ratified by a majority vote of the members in attendance.
    2. Amendments will be made by the Sponsors as needed. 
  7. DUES:
    1. Dues shall be collected annually and paid at the beginning of the school year online. 
    2. Failure to pay dues by the deadline will result in removal.    
  8. MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
    1. Members must reapply each year.  
    2. Members will be dismissed for failure to earn the set number of service hours by the deadline.
    3. Members may be dismissed for disciplinary issues related to club functions. 
    4. Any plagiarism (including the use of Artificial Intelligence) in the submission of work regarding essay contests or service hour assignments, will result in dismissal. 
    5. Dues are not refundable for any reason. 
    6. Dress code will be followed at all on and off campus gatherings. 
  9. SERVICE HOURS:
    1. Each member must earn 3 service hours through the listed options by the end of January. 
    2. Service hours can be earned by volunteering to work or participating in donation drives such as canned food for a local food bank, the yearly club Christmas tree at City Hall, etc...  More information will be provided for each opportunity via Google Classroom. 
      1. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor these opportunities. 
    3. Seniors must earn all 3 hours prior to listing History Club on the Senior of distinction list submission. 
    4. Students agree to represent WMHS in a positive manner.  If inappropriate actions are committed at a meeting, service opportunity, or off cite visit, the student will be removed and receive a disciplinary referral when applicable. 
  10. MISCELLANEOUS:
    1. Removals will be announced by a letter to the student through the home room / first period teacher.
    2. Members acknowledge that images from club events may appear in the yearbook or other school sanctioned media.

Announcements and service hour opportunities will be posted in Google Classroom.  The code will be sent to members via the opsb email used for the application.
