DAVID HALL

Hello and welcome to my online classroom!  I am glad to have you as part of our class community.  Whether a student, parent, or faculty member, I hope this page can be a valuable resource for you to stay up-to-date on my Speech classes.

Speech I Class Overview: The major focus of this class is to gain an understanding of the basic concepts in speech and mass communications.  Students will take vocabulary quizzes at the end of every unit.  In addition, students will practice public speaking every other week during the first semester of the year and participate in debates in the second half of the year.  Every two weeks will be considered a “unit” where we focus on different communication topics ranging from listening and critical thinking skills to persuasive and effective speaking skills.

Speech 2 Class Overview: The major focus of this class is building students skills of critical thinking and effective communication for mass audiences.  Students will take vocabulary quizzes at the end of every unit, and engage in various speaking and writing activities.  Every two weeks will be considered a “unit” where we focus on different communication topics such as rhetoric, advocacy, perspectives & strategies of conflict, visual literacy, interviewing, and news reporting.

Planning Hour: 2nd hour & 7th hour (available 7:45-8:15am // 2:04-2:45pm)

Google Classroom: A tool that I use regularly is Google Classroom.  Here, students will work on various class assignments and upload their work.  This site is typically more up-to-date with weekly class activities & information.  Parents, there is a “guardian” option on Google Classroom where you can recieve automated uptdates via email when the teacher posts on this site.  If you are listed on WebPams as a student’s parent or guardian and are interested in being added as a guardian to your student’s Google Classroom, please email me at dhall@opsb.net.
