General Art Policies & Procedures
Absences: Excused absences give you the opportunity to make up work; they DO NOT exempt you
from the work.
- Excused absences: ask teacher for what will be missed or what was missed (you get one extra project
day per excused day).
- Unexcused absences: ask another student what was missed (no extra project day will be given). Don’t forget all projects will be posted on google classroom.
Tardiness: If your’re Tardy, sign the sheet by the door. Unexcused tardiness after the second/third week of school will be treated as a behavior infraction.
Seating: Sit in your assigned seat (you may be marked absent if you move without permission).
Restroom:
- Go to the restroom before class begins, or wait until after class. (Never ask to go to the restroom
while the teacher is instructing!)
- Students must have a hall pass to be excused to use the restroom. EMERGENCIES ONLY.
Phone Rules in Mrs. Dunn’s ART class.
1. No Phones.
2.Students are given the opportunity to put their phone in the calculaor pocket holder next to my door.
3.Students are warned, if they don’t take advantage of this opportunity and are on their phones during class, it will be an immediate referral.
*Any abuse of the above rules will result in having your phone taken and standard phone protocol will be implemented. This is a privilege that I’m not required to give and if it’s taken advantage of, the privilege will no longer be available.
Sketchbooks:
- Upon entering class, students should take out pencils, erasers, and sketchbooks and begin their
sketchbook entries for that day (we will do this the first 10-15 minutes of class each day once we
have begun our sketchbook entries)
- At the end of sketchbook time, a timer will sound. Students should put sketchbooks away quickly, and
prepare for the day’s project.
Art Projects:
- The teacher will explain each project, show examples, give instructions, and discuss project grading.
- Students should pay attention, follow directions, and check their work against the instructions.
- The teacher will give students a due date for projects. Pace yourself!
- Rushing through a project may earn you extra work (which will be graded).
- Taking too long will cost you points for not meeting the deadline.
Work Completion:
-Turn work in on the due date (teacher will designate where to place finished work; typically in the
class box or on the front table)
- Late projects may lose 10 pts. per day
Art Materials:
- Your $25 fee is for rental, not ownership!
- Students who lose or carelessly destroy materials will incur fines.
- Students who steal materials will be reported and receive a referral.
- All materials should be returned to their proper places before leaving class.
- Accidental breakage should be reported to the teacher immediately (following teacher instructions will
prevent most of this)
- If you need additional materials or need to sharpen pencils during class, do so without distracting
others from their work. (Never get up while teacher is instructing!)
- The teacher will instruct students on how to take care of the materials for each project.
- Students should pay attention and follow cleaning/care instructions in order to avoid loss of points or
fines.
End of class:
- Clean up immediately at the sound of the timer or when instructed by the teacher.
- You are not dismissed until all of your materials have been returned to their proper places.
- Push your chair in before leaving.
- The teacher dismisses the class, NOT the bell.
- Show respect at all times!
Consistently striving to meet these expectations will make for a great school year for you,
your teacher, and your peers. Let’s have a great year!
